Stiff Hackle & Hot Heads Set

Stiff Hackle & Hot Heads Set

18 flies in 6 compartment magnetic box

This selection represents a “toolbox” of kebari based on concepts found in our Discovering Kebari eBook. In Japan tenkara anglers will often select kebari colour to aid visibility; either for the fish to be able to better see the fly or for the angler to better see takes.

The incorporation of the red silk “hot-spot” at the head mimics the red silk loop eyes found on historic Japanese kebari styles. Many anglers have noted how fish sometimes seem to home in on the red spot so, in addition the incorporation of the red head being a nod to the traditional tyings, it also has a practical application.

The black body and hackle can be very visible to fish in coloured water or very visible to the angler in very clear streams with light coloured river beds. 6 black kebari supplied in size 12 – 3 with red heads and 3 without.

The Cream coloured body is great for visibility from the angler’s point of view when fishing at the surface especially in streams with darker coloured beds. 6 cream kebari supplied in size 12 – 3 with red heads and 3 without.

The brown coloured kebari will surprise you in peaty streams – the red game hackle is oriented to have the light side facing the angler and the darker side facing the fish (a trick shown to us by Masami Sakakibara). This makes what seems like quite a drab fly incredibly visible to the angler even fished subsurface at fairly long range. 6 kebari supplied in size 12 – 3 with red heads and 3 without.
